Gain strategies for empowering immigrant students, creating more welcoming classrooms and centering the immigrant voice across the curriculum while earning Massachusetts Professional Development Points (PDPs).
Course objectives:
- Learn about current immigration facts, issues and policies
- Develop an asset-based perspective of immigrant and ELL students that celebrates their funds of knowledge
- Gain strategies for fostering belonging, identity and agency in immigrant and ELL students
Assessment:
- Portfolio assignments
- Final assignments
Massachusetts Professional Development Points (PDPs):
The Immigrant Learning Center is a registered Professional Development Provider (PDP) by the State of Massachusetts. This course is eligible for the following content areas: 1) English Language Learners, and 2) Safe & Supportive Learning Environments.
To receive 15 PDPs, you must:
- Participate meaningfully in at least 12 hours of virtual, synchronous training.
- Complete the portfolio and final assignment (3 hours) with a grade of meets expectations or above.

- Sign up here to indicate your interest in completing the requisite assignments to receive PDPs
- Register for the eligible individual trainings that best meet your needs and schedule. You must complete 12 hours of training.

- Immigrant Student Success Virtual Conference, July 16, 2024, 4 Hours: 10 AM-12 PM and 1:00-3:00 PM ET
- United by Sport: Cultivating Health and Belonging from the Little to the Big Leagues, September 17, 2024, 1.5 Hours: 7:00-8:30 PM ET
- October 29, 2024, 1.5 Hours: 4:00-5:30 PM ET: Topic TBD
- November 19, 2024, 1.5 Hours:4:00-5:30 PM ET: Topic TBD
- December 11, 2024, 1.5 Hours:7:00-8:30 PM ET: Topic TBD
