Citizenship Class
Do you or someone you know want to become a United States citizen? Anyone who is eligible to apply can get free help preparing for the citizenship exam and interview from The Immigrant Learning Center. We will stick with you until you reach your goal. Students can continue taking the class until they pass, and one-on-one tutoring is available if needed. Most students pass on their first try. Classes are offered in-person and online.

The ILC Offers Three Options for Citizenship Class:
1. English and Citizenship Class
This class is for students with basic English literacy and communication who want to improve their English and prepare for the citizenship exam and interview.
Schedule: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Location: 442 Main Street, Malden, MA
How long does it take to become a citizen?
Most students pass the citizenship interview and exam in 18 months or less. This depends on the student’s English ability and other factors.
2. Citizenship Preparation Class
This class is for students with intermediate to advanced English skills and only prepares students for the citizenship exam and interview.
In-person Schedule: Every Wednesday, 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Location: 442 Main Street, Malden, MA
Homework: Students must also study and practice at home.
How long does it take to become a citizen?
Most students pass the citizenship interview and exam in six to 12 months. This depends on the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services’ schedule and other factors.
3. Online Citizenship Program
This class is for students who cannot come in person to Malden, Massachusetts for class. The ILC’s Online Citizenship Program is managed by a teacher and taught by experienced volunteers.
Schedule: Flexible. The online program accommodates scheduling needs for students’ work, childcare, or other commitments.
Location: Online via Zoom
How long does it take to become a citizen?
This depends on the student’s English ability, how many hours they study, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services’ schedule and other factors.
