Many of us haven’t seen family members in person in more than a year. Fatma, an immigrant from Libya, hasn’t seen most of her children in more than seven years. Without her citizenship, she couldn’t travel freely outside the country. She enrolled in The ILC’s citizenship classes very motivated to learn.
Fatma struggled when she started classes. She had already scheduled a citizenship interview, but she didn’t know the answers to most of the 100 potential civics questions on the exam. Fatma practiced with The ILC instructors constantly, even during the spring break. Now Fatma jokes, “I studied too much!” She aced the exam and was sworn-in as a citizen at the end of March. Once it is safe to do so, she’s excited about seeing her family again.
She credits The ILC’s virtual classes for her success. “It’s a good, good school,” she says. We couldn’t run a “good, good school” for free without your support! Thank you for everything you do to help immigrants like Fatma see their families again.
