Immigrant Student Success PDP Course

Gain strategies for empowering immigrant students, creating more welcoming classrooms and centering the immigrant voice across the curriculum while earning Massachusetts Professional Development Points (PDPs).

Course objectives:

  • Learn about current immigration facts, issues and policies 
  • Develop an asset-based perspective of immigrant and ELL students that celebrates their funds of knowledge 
  • Gain strategies for fostering belonging, identity and agency in immigrant and ELL students

Assessment:

  • Portfolio assignments
  • Final assignments

Massachusetts Professional Development Points (PDPs):

The Immigrant Learning Center is a registered Professional Development Provider (PDP) by the State of Massachusetts. This course is eligible for the following content areas: 1) English Language Learners, and 2) Safe & Supportive Learning Environments.

To receive 15 PDPs, you must:

  • Participate meaningfully in at least 12 hours of virtual, synchronous training.
  • Complete the portfolio and final assignment (3 hours) with a grade of meets expectations or above.

Two-Step Application Process

  1. Sign up here to indicate your interest in completing the requisite assignments to receive PDPs
  2. Register for the eligible individual trainings that best meet your needs and schedule. You must complete 12 hours of training.
